  • In 15 yeats from now, would you accept a job from people who never got a vaccine?

    Like, William years?

Honestly. I expect someone without vaccines to be uneducated and sickly on the dole, as vaccines are a requirement for schooling without a medical exemption from an actual doctor.

And probably dead because, well, measles are a thing.

  • it's weird how so many linux memes could easily be turned into equally ill informed pro-MS memes

Like the one where Linus is getting telemetry from your machines and putting security at risk with essentially a C&C ping waiting for instructions.

  • Yes, please!

  • A local tower development - one as high as 92 storeys - is also getting a community centre in the middle. The community centre is 8 storeys, with parking underneath THAT.

in short, put the parking underground. I came to say that. If they don't have a solution that involves parking safely out of the way, then it should fail at city hall.

When the local hospital built a new tower, I was surprised to see they used NONE of the 60-80 feet under-neath the new block for parking. And by parking, I mean 2000 10x20 partitioned but unsegregated underground storage areas that can be used for cars, hoarding of medical equipment in a pre-pandemic phase, or for emergency ward space later. So, everything you'd want to do with your parking lot, but also out of the elements and well-served by power, lighting and security.

  • How does it help creators? Without them there is no web…” After all, if a web browser sucked out all information from web pages without users needing to actually visit them, why would anyone bother making websites in the first place

This reminds me of when Mozilla was 0.9 and the web was just taking the baton from Gopher.

When Ben suggests there would be no web without monetization, he seems to forget WHEN HE WAS THERE before the sellout.

  • A web forum is far better in most cases

It's sad when a web forum is better than the tool you're considering. Bumps, aggressive garbage collection, no Resurrection, it's weird.

I'm old, I guess. I miss NNTP, mainly for the archived posts I could discuss with the authors for an updated take or revised solution or some clarification. And yes, I know there's a good webUI front-end for an NNTP server as a back-end. ;-)

  • I found IRC loses chat flow more easily, as actual chat gets lost in the stream of blabber.

I am intrigued to see how threaded conversations in slack et al work, but haven't been at a shop where slack was allowed as a tool due to data sovereignty and the CLOUD act.

But IRC was always something I approached reluctantly, and that's been 31 years now.
