  • Dude.

    1. Stop comparing yourself to your heroic peers. You know you're not lying about your rich 'hustle' life (or lack), but you don't know they aren't.
    2. Do all the work but then get the downtime. Don't try to do too much too soon.
    3. Decide for you in all things. If you're gonna do the time, you pick the crime, to borrow a phrase.
    4. Don't lose heart. Incremental progress takes a long time. Pick a quick task to stay engaged, but realize sometimes that task is 'sleep properly'.

    That's all I got.

  • This paper forgets that the people most moved by terms like "history repeat itself" and "race-baiting" are already on-side.

The people most in need of persuasion recognize other terms like "return on investment", and then "stop them from sleeping in your alleys instead", or some similar hate.

  • I worry that a certain sector of our population will never believe that any action was reasonable, simply because of the people involved.

As they're often members of another group exhibiting other qualities, we can hope a rising tide will lift all boats in an intellectual manner.

    And that tide is Measles-covid.

  • I think you need to consider it to be ultimately universal as a goal healthcare, as I worry you're predisposed to consider any delay to be an abject failure and grounds for dismantling; see: healthcare.

It's a big project for a number of people, so it needs to follow a priority awareness. You may not be in the first group supported, and that needs to be okay. Triage rules always apply, and it's a great problem to have if you don't get seen first.

  • I'm not sure what you're on about. For me, reddit is "that thing that shows up in searches where I get the cached page" and not part of my life at all.

I didn't even bother to delete my posts. Fuck 'em. Let the bot be trained on me correcting halfwits who don't know e-mail isn't pluralized with an S or trying to get people to grow up about development and security. It seems the only thing their bots will get from me is better spelling and an aversion to flatpak.

If you wanna go on reddit and recommend a single Lemmy discussion as the answer to their problem, then do it. It's like linking to a stackOverflow answer. Maybe they'll stay once they find out it's different here. Cool.

I'm okay with it not being a movement. I'm glad I left reddit, like I was glad to leave its predecessors for reddit. I can hope for a long existence on the fediverse. Maybe we can be a good place for people to go, and we not try to think for them, okay? We know we're right and we came to that conclusion oirselves, so let others do the same.

I'll probably feel differently about it in a month, but right now this is like paddling against the tide.

  • It can be both: the officer could have been operating within the bounds of his responsibility, the victim could have been in a state with diminished hearing, and the tragic accident could be just that; AND the other officer could be a monumental racist shitbag who hates people and needs to lose his job and address that racism.

We can regret that this accident occured even as we hate the racist cop who disparaged the deceased and disrespected her as a person.

  • We are not America. We are "tax and spend-well" vs American 'everyone try to get their own deal' setup. It's cheaper, it's simpler, it's better for people ,it's cheaper and it's cheaper.

There. 3 reasons the conservatives should like "tax and spend" but don't, and 5 reasons every other party and anyone above room-temp IQ should like it.

  • But Cinc and its sell-out dad Chef are really great uses of ruby, keeping us from YAML hell and the kludgey socket-machine-gun that is Ansible. That piece of shit has more lithium-lick than I've ever seen.

If we can't have mgmtConfig (ohai go), at least let us keep Cinc, but it needs ruby.
