I haven't made all the decisions yet but my goal is to have a multi-sensory experience while making music in headphones. Meaning I don't need a professional light show nor do I want to spend much time programming lights.
What I am thinking now is I will build a Raspberry Pi based video synth to throw nice visuals on a spare monitor. Then if I want to invest some more I will get a roland vc-1-dmx to convert the raspberry pi hdmi signal to a dmx universe to connect some LED tubes around the studio.
Hahaha funny. I was watching YouTube on my TV and scanning the instance to see if there is any content that needs moderation. Guess what video was watching when I found this post 😂.
If people start complaining about sharing classical pieces on the synth community then we will just create a classical community as well. All music is welcome.
I have a very long powered usb-c extension chord, a ton of audio cables and power running to a setup behind my desk.
Audio: All the audio cables go into a (normalled) patch bay.
My most common gear I have normalled to my audio interface but if I want to replace it with something else as the number of inputs on the audio interface are limited.
Power: For power I have a big power splitter with multiple sections that have their own power switch allowing me to fully disconnect things.
USB: For USB I have a usb hub at the end of the usb c extender. It's a powered hub as well to support connecting more things.
Ableton: I made presets for most of my instruments using tracks and the external instrument device. My electron gear runs through Overbridge (to save on audio interface ports as well as being able to save and recall presets from Ableton).
I think that's about it, did I miss anything? I will probably share some pictures in next week's thread since I hope it will be done presentable then.
I bought a bunch of cabling which I am expecting to be delivered next week. So I hope to set up my gear in such a way I can walk around any play whatever I want to play. All connected to Ableton.
This week I felt pretty under the weather so no real activities there.
I hadn't considered additional displays until @risibledog@waveform.social and you mentioned solutions like that. Good idea and worth exploring.
For now I think I have settled on DMX as it is expandable in the future. I will just need to figure out the audio or midi to DMX situation. But that's just software I can run on my DAW pc.
Eyesy looks interesting but the pricing like most things C&G seems off to me.
I picked a DMX setup with 2 bright multi-channel LED bars which come out to around 280 bucks total so I think I will be going that route (and learning aother popular live performance tech).
I've found this: https://www.theimpersonalstereo.com/dmax
From the docs it seems that it would allow me to map any Ableton parameter to dmx channels. So all I would need is a dmx interface and lights.
I’ve started working on an OST for a new game. I’ve got a motif down and will be working on the song structure this weekend. Pretty excited.
