This reminds me of another thing I see truck owners doing all the time. Using a trailer hitch bike rack. I see this all the time, two bikes on the rack with a completely empty bed.

Na, he just doesn't want to scratch the paint of the tray but if the side of the truck is scratched than he can say someone else did it.
