Recently annexed areas in Austin could vote to leave city this spring
A new state law allows residents in certain areas to vote on disannexing from their city.

What is the point of disannexing? Do they become separate villages/towns? Are they doing this to bolster right-wing votes elsewhere?
In Austin, it's mainly to not have to deal with Austin policies and services. Especially APD. Most people would prefer to deal with Travis County Sheriff instead. They also prefer their own MUD districts instead of Austin utilities.
I think this was the case here. They had better services before annexation.
