Probably imported, but that doesn't make them less real. The ease of transferring accounts will be a major advantage for this platform.

My guess is that a good part of those people are just trying to reserve a good username and then will sit on it.

Probably the same reason people from Reddit deffered to Lemmy. Discontent with the current service provider.

That's not the question. The question is, why are people satisfied with Meta as a service provider, given everything they know about them.
And the answer is: Instagram. People don't actually associate Instagram with Meta in the same way they do with Facebook, given that one used to be the name of the company.
Threads is an extension to Instagram. Hell, most Twitter users jumping over probably didn't even need to create an account, because they're already active on Instagram.

I don't like Meta or Twitter, but I am rooting for Meta in this battle. Just sick of Musk's antics.

It’s meta. It was ruined in the conception stage. No way were there good actors at play at any point in this process.

But it's by Facebook and a lot of people are already joining it. I feel like if anyone can compete with twitter it'll be them (even though I genuinely despite Zuck)
