That’s not specifically ‘Russian’ - the Creationists have been using that technique for decades to push their bullshit.
The violent Hindu supremacists currently in power in India do the same. The entire mainstream stream has been taken over them and they also influence how socialmedia co.s like Youtube, Twitter, & Meta (Facbook, Instagram, Whatsapp) operate in India.
Whatsapp is derisively called "whatsapp university" due to the firehose of lies, propaganda, & disnformation it unleashes daily, while mainstream media is called godi-media (godi translates to "lap") as they're considered to be Modi's lapdog media. A wing of the ruling BJP called its 'IT cell' is in charge of this firehose.
