New users; are any of you migrating to matrix/element too? Which rooms?

I'm down for more chat rooms, especially the alive and kicking rooms.

Which rooms y'all in, and roughly how busy are they?

- Yes.
  Matrix (the most popular app is Element) is to discord What Lemmy is to reddit.

  Because its default interface (Element, by Matrix developers) looks like Discord
  
  In Element (an app that uses Matrix protocol) you can basically organize yourself as in Discord. Rooms/Servers with subchannels that you can invite people to and distribute admin/mod rights.

  no, that's not possible. Matrix uses it's own protocol.

Been using Matrix with a few people for a few months now and am quite happy. I made the move after Signal decided to kill off support for SMS.
I am tired of first parties dictating the usage of their platforms. I'd like a bit of ownership.
Signal's seamless bridging between sms and encrypted messaging was the entire value add.

  Which was an Android-only feature already. It sucks that they've removed it, the long-hold action on the send button is now used for the scheduled send feature.
It was hard enough to get my family to switch from WhatsApp to signal. I think matrix would be a step too far. I do have account myself but haven't seen too many active rooms.
Not really. I'm more of a XMPP user. And I think Lemmy could have a separate field for XMPP also instead of only having one for Matrix. XMPP's good
I've been using matrix for a while, I just use it to talk to my friends. I prefer using irc when I need to talk to strangers.
