I do top -> 6 hours it keeps it fresher
- Top 6 for all, new for subscribed, works for me.
  
  Top 12 first thing in the morning, top 6 after 2pm, hot after that; new for subscribed.

  I do the same except for when I wake up. At that time I go top of 12 hrs, mainly to help keep me up-to-date on what happened in other time zones (usually the US lol) when I was asleep
- My problem is rhe slow burners dont make it in, meaning you miss many current events. I now use Top Week because "You didn't hear about ...?!?"
- I set Voyager to auto-hide on read. Top 24hrs has more content than I can read in a day that way.
And I wouldn't have it any other way. I appreciate how lemmy is just a simple link aggregator.

  Imgur users on ‘new’ once ran an experiment for a day where they upvoted basically anything — in practice, oddest and weirdest stuff bubbled up. I've never seen such entertaining feed before or after.

  I expect the algorithm is simple. Posts with the most votes are selected. There are more complex algorithms that perform weighting on various metrics, but then the "algorithm" becomes a black box, and accusations of it being manipulated will surface. Votes can be manipulated, but they are public, so they can be scrutinized.
