The change does make perfect sense to me for mobile users, but I find it cumbersome and annoying when viewing via desktop. I.e., thumbnails are a thing for good reasons.
Note: I've no idea at the moment whether this behavior holds true when viewing PF posts using other FV software (Lemmy, etc).
Here's an example of a posting I made the other day in which I was expecting all the images in the body to be thumbnails, but instead they got auto-stretched to width: https://piefed.social/post/1377770
Problem is-- it tends to turn something which I designed to be a relatively quick read in to something that requires a load of scrolling to get through.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Yes, I've been messing with that.
It's quite difficult to find something that works for all images, especially when markdown has no image formatting controls.
I suppose I could try hand-creating the thumbnails to appear as images in the body of a post, then double-nesting them, with the full image linked inside. That used to work on the Lemmy side, anyway.
Guess I should test that out...
I've been trying this out:

Read the comment below the post.
NB this only works on crust.piefed.social at present, it's not on piefed.social because it's a bit risky. I want to see what breaks first.
You could but it's more work than we can expect most people to do, especially on a mobile device. I'm going to see what I can do from my end to improve the formatting without losing the benefits I was aiming for with the earlier change.
