Awesome song. I heard it for the first time covered by Zappa, learned only years later it was originally written by Gregg Allman. Thanks for posting!
The writer credits for Zappa’s cover of “Mary Lou” was how I found out it was NOT originally by Bob Seger. I incorrectly assumed that since Seger’s version mentions the city of Kalamazoo and since Seger oftentimes references his home state, that it must have been a Seger original.
Heheh, “The man from Utopia meets Mary Lou”. Some other stuff on “The man from Utopia” that are pretty good imo.
The Bob Seger cover has a nice groove to it, had not heard it before (or anything by Seger) but just gave it a listen. If it had played on the radio first listen, I might have wondered if it was Foggerty/CCR for a moment. I’ll add him to my artist list.
