(OC) sharing some Lies Of P fan art I made and my thoughts on the game so far

Like some of you I presume, I've been playing Lies of P for the first time recently... I took a break from it

to do a little fan art. A messy half baked sketch, but fan art nonetheless :P I couldn't resist, Geppetto's puppet is just the cutest kid.

Anyway, I've been really enjoying it! the combat I'm loving the most. As a mostly dodge monkey I feared parrying was going to be overwhelming, but the game eases you in very nicely. Maaan I love seeing those red sparks fly! Cool weapon movesets, the arm spices up the playstyle, and the fable arts are fun, but those feel a bit overpowered now, certainly will be very handy in NG+ cycles.

On that note, bosses have not felt super difficult, and I've enjoyed most of the fights (swamp monster phase 2 did made me sweat but it's ok, my favorite so far has been king of puppets ...least favorite: the mad clown and probably champion Victor, I struggled with his timings so I just dodged, and it was a bit meh that way)

World design, and vibes are all great of course, a beautiful homage to bloodborne in many ways, while doing it's own thing... Story wise I like the way they chose to adpapt this classic.

Over all It's been a pretty tight experience, Lots more good things to say about this game, but I won't bore you with it, I'm sure everything's been said ad nauseum. I've got some minor nitpicks here and there but nothing major. just wanted to ramble on a bit :D I think the ps+ subscription only gives access to the base game, so I'm a bit bummed about that.

Anyway, sorry for the mega post if you are playing of have played before I'd love to hear about your experience as well. What you loved, what you didn't... Just please mark any endgame spoilers :P

  • Wow, I love your art - I'd love to see more!

And thank you for sharing your experience. I'm a huge advocate of the game and the DLC as well and love both to bits. I even have a tattoo inspired by it and at this point it's probably safe to assume that it's my favourite soulslike, dethroning Sekiro. Not sure if it's my favourite game overall, which is also Sekiro, but I've played the game close to as much as Sekiro, so it's either a toss up between the two or because of recency bias I'd give LoP the win.

As you've also outlined, I also love the story, the combat, the atmosphere. I wrote the game off as being too derivative of Bloodborne and I'm very glad that it's not. I gave the demo a try back when it dropped and didn't vibe with it too much - I'm so glad I gave the game another shot on my jailbroken PS4, really made the appreciate it more. There were times where I didn't like the game because of some specific bosses, Green Swamp Monster being a huge roadblock for me as well as the King of Puppets, but it was manageable overall. The final stretch of the game can drag on a little as well as the last three bosses. Still, it's a favourite of mine, probably played through its entirety like 6-7 times on PS4 and PS5.

Had to stop myself from playing through the DLC a second time because I was feeling myself getting a little burned out on the game since all I was doing was playing the game at that point. Going for the platinum trophy wore me out a little, I think.

    Questions for you:

    • Did you finish the game yet? If not, are you planning on doing so?
    • Who was your favourite boss?
    • What was your favourite weapon (combination)?
    • Will you be getting the DLC? 30€ is relatively steep for a DLC, but as a totally unbiased bystander it is worth it after all :P

Glad that you are enjoying your time with the game 💙🦋

Edit: Also, if this is just a sketch, I don't even know what to expect of a finished piece, hooly 😳

    • my favourite soulslike

      Oooh That's really high praise!

I wrote the game off as being too derivative of Bloodborne

I had my reservations as well, it peaked ny interest when I saw that Ongbal really liked the combat and I decided it must be very good so I'd try it regardless, took a while to actually play but I'm happy I did.

      Now, to answer your questions:

I still havent finished yet, but last I entered the arche abbey, so I'm close to the end. I'll of course finish it aaand probably replay for as long I can access the game. Probably purchase it, but later.

Favorite boss: still king of puppets; that might change but it's definitely one of the best designed fights, and it also comes at a high point in the game, since the opera is one of the best locations. Also the cutscene is impactful, and the change of pace of the fight really pushes you. 10/10

Favorite weapon: I really liked the crescent Glaive, came in very handy for the brotherhood fight but at times it felt like easy mode. The sycthe you can get after romeo is really good as well. I didn't play much with the modifications, I tried at the beginning but didn't get anything I liked better than what I had, I'll experiment with that more next run. The legion arms are also very fun, puppet string and aegis are the ones I've used.

I do want to get the DLC buut, I have a hard time justifying the cost right now if I don't own the base game. We'll see 'cause I'm definitely hooked.

Glad you liked the drawing! I'm trying to up my digital art skills :P I have lots of fan art Ideas I'll try to give myself time to actually do them.
