So in the same year, this kid made a b-movie and Last Action Hero 🤯
Never heard of it but I watched the trailer just now, and wow, those effects really hold up (within the scope of what they were capable of and aiming for). I'd rather watch this tier of action figure effects work than marvel CGI any day.
It's also supremely underrated because it is a meta commentary about action movies 10 years before "meta narrative" was a discussion in film schools. Last Action Hero is a great deconstruction of 80s action movies by the director who was responsible for some epic action movies himself, like Die Hard and Predator, so it feels like a reflection on his career.
Arnold is also at the start of his speaking roles and isn't afraid of being campy with the material, like Kindergarten Cop and Twins. It's like a hidden gem of firsts in a movie that understands itself and doesn't take itself seriously, like when Arnold's character meets Arnold Schwarzenegger the actor.
Chucky Dance is singularly mesmerizing every time he is on screen. It makes sense why this killer with charisma can away with murder.
All around an excellent and hidden gem of the 90s.
Are you writing about Last Action Hero, or Prehysteria?

Same! 🙏🏻
Holy core memory Batman! I was obssesed with dinosaurs as a kid and I watched this movie hundreds of times.
