The cannibalistic symbolism in Christianity has always been incredibly bizarre to me. It's even more bizarre that Christians don't seem to think anything of it.
Because Christians are world champions at taking the most bizarre desert apocalyptic cult ravings and "interpret" them into something which fits nicely with what they prefer to believe instead.
i'd guess most christians see it as a symbol for the sacrifice jesus made for them, even though the catholic church official stand is that the bread is jesus actual body and the wine is his blood in the ritual of communion.
i think overall it's just to abstract to register as canibalism, even though people feasting on their saviour is a funny thought.
