Probably because this horseshit wasn't the state of things when they joined, and now they're years deep in their military careers and didn't expect to get kicked out of the military, losing their pensions. It's difficult to have your life plans stolen from you on the whims of some assholes. I'd probably try to cling to it too.
I don’t understand- this nonsense was always there. From genocide support to invasion to hegemonic expansion of an empire … nobody actively involved in military service today is there by force of draft.

Yes, modern capitalism has made it so some of are, by design so desperate we “must” join. But we should at all steps support people who don’t want to join or want to get the heck out.
