Living in a village means social control. Everybody knows everything about you, everybody gossips about everybody and people tend to tear each other down. This is not in any way specific to Africa. Once people have a choice, they will usually remove themselves from such a situation. Which of course has consequences.
that's like saying the solution for drowning is drought.
the solution to one extreme isn't there opposite extreme
