Perhaps a Canadian hotel chain is plaintiff?
Either way booking.com is ironically the best way to add an element of uncertainty in your hotel booking actually being booked.
From what I've seen most hotel chains offer discounts for booking through them that match 3rd party sites anyways. Whatever cost difference is worth it having the concierge at the hotel in full control of any payment or customer service issues.
I always hear people saying things like this so last time I booked a hotel I called them and asked if they would match prices from third parties and I was told no.
