Sorry for the rant, but this is something that sometimes really gets to me.
Its like people can only focus on 2-3 things at once. And those 2-3 things WILL be forced into every single conversation online. Locally, there was an article about some company that was scamming and threatening people. And so many comments under that article are people going "FREE PALESTINE!"
And i get it. Yes, free Palestine. 100%. But do we have to focus on this in every single fucking conversation?
Or they will go "Are you gonna write an article about Gaza!?" While that writer literally wrote a huge article about it the day before. But they don't give a shit. They just want to yell it at people and
And again, i get it. The genocide in gaza is EXTREMELY important. But can we for the love of fuck also talk about other things without some comment activist yelling at people about it at every opportunity?
Just a LITTLE bit of space to talk about other issues? It feels a bit like the opposite of Zionists. Where in every opportunity they yell "DID YOU CONDEMN HAMAS YET TODAY!?"
A year ago, people wrote SLAVA UKRAINI! under every fucking thing. Now its FREE PALESTINE!.
And both of these things are incredibly important. Please don't think i don't think they are. But can we also talk about other problems? Or about happy things?
Can we have conversations about specific things? Instead of throwing a bunch of shit in a room and running back out?
The amount of horrific photos and videos of dead Palestinian kids i have had shoved into my face is not okay.
This is one of the big reasons I finally left Facebook and reddit and all the mainstream shit. And I'm starting to see it's just a social (media) problem and not something I can escape by switching platforms. At least not easily, and I imagine if I start going on a block run now it'll only end up consuming nearly all my time soon enough and just no. I guess the only thing left is to only browse specific communities that actively moderate those sorts of comments, or just give up being social online entirely. Kinda sucks when you have social anxiety and these online spaces are the one place you feel least constrained by it.
On the gram, you find this flooding every single article about Trump's attempts to genocide trans people or disappear brown people. Yes Gaza is important but please people, read the room
And this is why people feel like they constantly need to validate their opinions by repeating them, so people like you don't think everyone suddenly doesn't care.
You're so kind and sweet - but that's the Lady Butterfly we all know and admire.
I never left. I've been slow to comment on Lemmy recently, but my habit of up-voting your posts/comments at the sight of your name is muscle memory. And I believe I am not alone in this practice.
Right, because everything was magically perfect before Trump. We're going to completely ignore McConnell's platform of obstructionism or the 40 some attempts at repealing the ACA, or really any Republican platform since the 1950s.
And the other trillion problems. Jesus this is stupid.

Lemmy is especially bad for this I've noticed. Virtually every comment section devolves into Israel vs Palestine
