Makes time for you when it’s needed and reasonable.
Initiates conversations and hangouts, even when they don’t need anything from you.
Has their own hobbies and interests outside of the friendship.

When they make an effort and want to do things you want to do

Respect.
Do they respect your boundaries? Do they respect your time? Do they respect your opinions? Do they respect the people you love as if they were an extension of you?
Do they respect you? If the answer is no, that's not a friend.

They discreetly tell you about your bad breath. Or something like that.

When you catch up it’s as if no time has passed no matter how long it’s been since you last spoke to them.
