wifi drivers - ubuntu

Every time i installed an ubuntu distro , wifi dont appear to me and i need to install drivers via a github repo.

I remember people advice to me to do this - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=435576

and that really solve my problem. However, more im getting into linux, people says to me to be carefully about what i put on terminal.

Being said that, anyone know if this is bad, to do this? Since is the only way i get to putting my wifi working, i would like if this can be danger, since i really dont understand nothing about linux and i am new in this journey.

  • Get a different wifi card or adapter that doesn't require proprietary code?

"Plugable" is an affordable brand of WiFi and Bluetooth dongles that work out of the box with Linux. Nevermind it looks like modern versions of Plugable dongles no longer support Linux, so skip that.

My WiFi and Bluetooth work out of the box on my desktop and laptop, as well as the laptop I set up for my mother recently. No dongles needed.

I use Kubutnu for my desktop and laptop and Xubuntu for my mothers since hers is lower end, for reference since you said you were using Ubuntu.

When I am back at my desktop I will grab the info on my WiFi/Bluetooth card and share. It's older but it works fine. I'm sure a newer model would as well.

But yes if you aren't sure what you are doing you do need to be slightly careful about what you're putting in your terminal. Because even if it is safe, it might fix your problem but break something else, creating a new and different problem.

    EDIT: Desktop PCI WiFi/Bluetooth: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX200

Looks like the AX200 also has a laptop variant, but you'd have to open up your laptop to install. Not as simple as a dongle.
