synthwave / darkwave, 2021
The year is 2053 and Synthpop has been banned by the evil president of the world.
A specialist team from the secret government 'Future Human Evolution' (FHE) department have been sent back in time to make awesome synthpop inspired music.

This is pretty much straight synthwave, but it mixes in a couple lines of that song "Cry Little Sister" from the Lost Boys soundtrack, which I've heard being played by several different goth DJs...
You absolutely have. Gerard McMahon's work as a whole may not be specific to any related generas. But cry little sister is iconic for many reasons. From the gothic feel to the fact that it was attached to a very popular vampire horror film. I've had it requested many times DJing.
Synthwave isn't necessarily a problem. Carpenter Brut often has used lovecraftian and horror themes leading to dark, atmospheric and brooding tracks that would fit in any darkwave set. Same for Occams Lazer . We are Magonia has done a lot of straight up gothic mixed with dubstep and metal many times. Though this with the sax reminds me of gunship . Not the most gothy hehe. But they did do a colab with HEALTH . Which often is keyed in to gothic vibes. Their most recent track featured John Carpenter, and the video is a straight up send up of the early 90's. Darksynth definitely has it;s place here.
