This song is like a warm fuzzy blanket. NIN still fantastic after all this time
Agreed. I'm seeing them in a month or so, which is exciting as I figured they'd never tour again.
Found out about this on !cyberpunk@lemmy.zip. In their neverending thirst for increased profits, Disney decided to extend the Tron franchise again, and Trent's been making some award-winning soundtracks recently, so...
The song's standard-issue NIИ. Kinda makes sense: if you think about the best songs on the Not the Actual Events / Add Violence / Bad Witch EPs, they're not the sort of thing that Disney would let them put in a movie. Or maybe this is just the "hit single" and the rest of the soundtrack's more inventive. Also, the song sounds pretty good when it's mixed in with the movie preview. Unfortunately the movie looks pretty mediocre -- I mean it's got the guy from Morbius ffs... and the plot seems totally predictable...
Yeah, Trent is fine. I'm not going to have a major objection to him. Though I was hoping that they would continue the vibe that daft punk put up. You're not going to get any more fitting soundscape than something like they did. Then of course it's a shame how Disney did daft punk.
Though honestly I was hoping they might pick up a few lesser-known artists. Dance with the dead, midnight danger, Carpenter Brut. I mean listen to this track and tell me you don't hear light cycle race all over it.
And yeah I'm not sure what charm Jared Leto ever used to have. But at this point he's kind of kiss of death for any project.
That Carpenter Brut song would definitely work well for something Tron adjacent as would a lot of synthwave style stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing some aggressive chiptunes stuff like MASTER BOOT RECORD included too.
I wonder how much extra Disney paid to have Trent use NIN for name recognition vs Trent and Atticus, or if it was a decision by Trent to use NIN. I love NIN, but I think him and Atticus would have made more of a signature sound for the movie, kind of like what Daft Punk did.
I'll wait until I hear more tracks release to really feel the vibe.
