Gisele Pelicot awarded France's highest civilian honor – DW – 07/14/2025

Pelicot's landmark case led to reforms in France's rape laws after she bravely testified about enduring a decade of sexual abuse.
Gisele Pelicot, the French woman whose courage in publicly testifying about the decade-long sexual abuse she endured made her a symbol of women's rights in France, has received the country's highest civilian honor.
Pelicot was named a knight of the Legion of Honor in a list published Sunday, ahead of France's Bastille Day celebrations.
She joins 588 others on this year's list.
Quick reminder that the list of Legion d'Honneur includes many many sexual predators, including but not limited to Gérard Depardieu and Abbé Pierre.
Gerard Depardieu has been found guilty of a crime recently, and unless the appeal goes through, he will then automatically be stripped of his Legion d'Honneur
Posthumous exclusion of the Legion is straight up not a thing, so there is no point in talking about Abbé Pierre
Yes and Jimmy Saville was Knighted, Roman Polanski has an Oscar and the inventor of leaded gasoline was awarded a Nobel Prize for his creation. What is your point exactly?
That maybe we should strip people of these decorations and titles if they're convicted?
And besides, because of shit like this, the Legion d'Honneur is a meme in France nowadays.
Relevant incongruity.
