If it was autonomous, why did it need starlink?

Autonomous vehicles often have network connectivity to allow the owner to track, monitor, and send commands.

Not for control, but for tracking/monitoring.
I'd imagine the people that sent it would like to know where it is and if it arrives or gets intercepted.

Imagined a semi-submersible, capable of carrying 1.5 tonnes, essentially built in a backyard, autonomously cross an entire ocean. That's pretty cool.
