Sigur Rós - Hoppípolla (Official Video)

This is from the album Takk… and is the song that brought them to a broader audience than the indie nerds who had found them after they were touted as the Icelandic Radiohead. I would like to know the stats on how many nature documentaries and sports highlights this song has been the soundtrack to.

Although "post-rock" isn't my biggest jam, you have to admire what they have achieved in their career, especially reaching an audience who doesn't understand either the Icelandic language or the improvised language "Hopelandic" that appears in the songs. I genuinely like to dip into their back catalogue.

  • I have also never seen this rather fun video. Wikipedia tells me that Hoppípolla is a variation of the Icelandic "to hop in puddles" and the video was shot in the suburbs of Reykjavik. I was lucky enough to go there once, and I'm glad I did.

    • Going to Iceland was one of my favorite trips. Their DVD Heima is really good too.

  • If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. Easily one of the best shows I've ever been to. It was just them, for 2 hours. No openers or anything.
