Where's the evidence that eating less makes you lose weight? Is the author mentally handicapped?
The evidence is the laws of thermodynamics.
Over what time frame? Of course anyone who can maintain the willpower to get on a diet and stick to it can loose weight, but the evidence shows that the vast majority will put weight back on in the medium/ longer term. The attitude of depriving yourself to loose weight (as well as the body's reaction to quick weight loss) can contribute to a damaging cycle of weight loss/ gain.
It seems to be better to focus on eating better and being more active to improve overall health, and if weight loss happens at the same time then that's great.
