You can deploy an app that just filters BS for videos pretty quickly and cheaply but you run into limitations. Only one alternative is using the AT protocol, which is ambitious and potentially expensive. We'll see which approach wins.
They're actually both using ATProto. The difference is that Reelo will be hosting their own video uploads instead of relying on Bluesky PBLLC, meaning that users won't be subject to the 60-second limit that Bluesky imposes.
Oh indeed but it is a bigger deal to develop a separate service on AT than it is to create an app that filters Bluesky for videos or images. The latter can be rolled out pretty quickly, the former will take considerable work but, if you can successfully launch an AT-based replacement for Instagram or TikTok then it could be a game-changer.
