I was a bit reluctant to post something by RAND because it's so embedded in the US MIC, but if you can read past the "China bad, US good" tone, the content is still interesting, and it provides some insights into the current state of information warfare.

The role of AI language models, as both measure and countermeasure, underlines the complexity of the challenge but also illuminates the path to managing it effectively. By engaging proactively, the United States can develop robust warning systems and counteract potential threats, enhancing national security while reaping the rewards of technological innovation.

Of course, if the US is complaining about China investing in AI driven disinformation, we can draw our own conclusions about whether the US and its allies are doing the exact same thing to their adversaries. Which is perhaps what "engaging proactively" means in this context.
