UN: July Set to be Hottest Month Ever Recorded

  • On Thursday, the UN warned that new data from the World Meteorological Organization, collected in partnership with the European Copernicus Climate Change Service, indicates that July will be the hottest month ever recorded on Earth. CBS (LR: 2 CP: 5)
  • The warning comes as the first three weeks of July have seen records broken for the warmest periods ever observed. The month saw average global surface air temperature reach 19.95°C, as well as the three hottest days on record. UN News
  • This July, record-breaking heat waves were reported worldwide, mainly in the Southwest US, Mexico, China, and the Mediterranean. Rising temperatures have mainly been linked to global warming and climate change. Scientific American (LR: 3 CP: 3)
  • While the naturally occurring El Niño has been partly blamed for an intensely hot July, its warming impact is not expected to come into effect until the end of this year. The Telegraph
  • Last week, NASA climatologist Gavin Schmidt claimed that July may be the world's hottest month in "hundreds, if not thousands, of years," while anticipating that 2024 will be even warmer due to the El Niño weather phenomenon. Daily Mail (LR: 5 CP: 5)
  • Based on evidence devised from sources including the air trapped in polar ice cores and sediments in the deep ocean, some scientists have claimed that the last time the world saw these temperatures was about 120K years ago. BBC News (LR: 3 CP: 5)

Pro-establishment narrative:

  • July 2023 is on the verge of breaking heat records globally and surpassing June as the hottest month on record, which could mean we're currently seeing the highest temperatures for 125K years. El Niño may be partially contributing to this warming trend, but humans are undoubtedly driving up global temperatures through fossil fuel use and rising carbon emissions. Without dramatic changes in human activities, this heat will only intensify.

Establishment-critical narrative:

  • Summer season in the Northern Hemisphere is seeing warm temperatures — this is precisely as it should be. Yet, global warming alarmists are now weaponizing high temperatures by cherry-picking data, selectively choosing the starting and ending points in datasets even though evidence indicates heat waves were much worse a century ago than today. The facts show there is no reason to panic about climate change.

Nerd narrative:

  • There's an 88% chance that there will be at least 2°C of global warming by 2100, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
