git commit -m "fix shitty code"i love programming. i love when a seemingly innocuous line of code cause an extremely specific and seemingly random edge case that i have to manually test for because of how shittily interlinked this specific region of code is, so i have to eyeball logs of grid positions for ages until i comment out an essential part of the algorithm in desperation which reveals the effect that the previous innocuous line was having on the whole damn thing and all it takes is deleting one character to fix everything

It's fine, I guess, but I get a lot more capital G Gamer vibes than I expected based on the "What is (and isn’t) Beehaw" page in the docs. I wonder if it got worse after the (small) migration from reddit

I recently finished The Southern Reach trilogy. They're about an anomalous region that defies scientific explanation, and the people surrounding it. Even when I didn't really know what was happening below the surface (which was often), I found them highly compelling.
Of other media I'm familiar with, I'd compare it to House of Leaves and Control in that it's weird but not exactly supernatural or paranormal (the Control devs have even cited these books as one of the many inspirations)
You might recognize the first book's title, Annihilation, as a movie from 5ish years ago with Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac. It's a very different plot, but uses a lot of the same pieces.

got the two calvin and hobbes paperbacks out of the library that i dont have in my collection (The Revenge of the Babysat and Weirdos From Another Planet!), so ive been rereading all of the books. ive also learned that some of my older paperback copies are falling apart :(

i think it's really time for a new laptop. my hand-me-down 2011 macbook pro is kinda struggling to do basic stuff like open outlook lmao (granted outlook is kinda a shitty site but still). it's too bad that it works fine for almost all my needs but the only thing it cant do that i need it to is open any somewhat modern web site without shitting the bed
