This is the US we're talking about, and the other choice is a literal piece of shit covered in orange paint who should be in prison. Not sure what you think you're accomplishing with this comment.
Sure, but I just need more than this. Like where is the good 3rd party person? West's campaign is a joke, Stein's previous failures are contributing to her campaign performance this cycle. RFK is a nutter. Cenk isn't even a natural born citizen so I have no fucking clue what his angle is and it's plain he isn't serious anyways based on his rhetoric.
Who am I supposed to vote for? Anyone can step up, why can't we field a better candidate than the Dems? It feels like it should be easy. I don't know if I'm willing to throw this country to MAGA so I can vote for one of these people over Biden, we need to do better.
Party for socialism and liberation if you want a decent one.
As far as weather you’re throwing the country to conservatives by not voting for Biden: no vote in the world will change that. Do more than vote, and when you do, don’t do it for the democrats or any political party but instead for the people around you.
If you feel worried about what will happen if trump wins, don’t. Last time around he lost and everyone is still talking about it in what can only be described as hysterics. What do you think will happen if he loses this time? It’s not like people have more faith in the electoral process. The same crowd that was in the capitol on January sixth has had time to plan and examine their previous mistakes.
Do not look to your vote or any votes cast in this election to save America from imagined futures. Act to stabilize yourself and those around you in preparation for those futures instead.
I pay dues to the DSA bub, you don't need to tell me to go do politics stuff. The fact remains that they don't have a candidate they're supporting. They're the biggest leftist org in America and they can't put ANYONE on the ballot?
I feel like if nothing changed for you during Trump's last presidency that's great for you personally, but that doesn't reflect the lived experiences of millions of people here... My vote is one of many but it's the most important thing I can do as an individual, I'm not a billionaire or an elected official. I can advocate in my community and stuff of course. But at the end of the day the people with the votes win the office. That's how it works.
I don't really get your point though, you say that everyone is in hysterics over Trump but also that
The same crowd that was in the capitol on January sixth has had time to plan and examine their previous mistakes.
Which one is it? Should I be worried or not? Because if yes, then we need to have a discussion about the real world as it is now, and the choices in front of us now, not ignoring national politics to do whatever "do more for the people around you" means...
Yeah there’s some ways the dsa has certainty not met expectations.
A lot of stuff has changed for me over the past eight years too. I’d say that if you think voting, particularly in the presidential election, is the most important thing you can do as an individual you’re selling yourself short.
I’m just some idiot but I managed to get my local government to do actual waterway buffer zones and upkeep as opposed to a greenwashing ad campaign with some money earmarked for “sustainability”.
That’s more than any vote of mine has ever done, certainly a vote in the presidential race.
When I made light of January sixth it was because it’s pretty goofy event overall. When I motioned towards a redo after the upcoming election it was to hopefully make clear that the project 2025 crowd isn’t the only group who recognized that they need better plan.
I had wanted to not outright say it, but: there is no discussion about the real world and choices in front of us now to be had. It doesn’t matter how people vote, if trump isn’t declared the winner there will be a replay of January sixth by people who paid attention and are better equipped, prepared and coordinated. This isn’t a hike along branching trails, it’s a rollercoaster and we gotta get strapped in.
I hope to be proven wrong, but take some time now while no one’s the wiser and get resilient.
As far as what doing for the people around you means: if you stop on your way about a busy day and help someone change a tire, carry their groceries in, charge their phone or give a ride that has a greater impact on the future of the world around you in real terms than any vote for who sits atop the great satan and holds the reins.
This isn’t a hike along branching trails, it’s a rollercoaster and we gotta get strapped in.
I really hope you're wrong about this, although it's something I've considered a lot as well. I agree with everything you're saying, but I just can't shake the idea that what's happening in Florida is a preview of what's to come, and in my eyes there's a severe difference between D and R right now and I genuinely worry for my queer friends especially sometimes. Federal law supercedes any local stuff and the President has been an office which has increasingly used executive action to meet its objectives. Combined with how Congress works.... I think we need to try our damnedest to avoid the implications of that, is all. Biden is the only shot we have right now in that regard 🫠
I urge you to consider that democrats are in power now while events in Florida, Texas and across the country take place.
I didn’t make my original comment to change minds, but to help people feel comfortable saying no to the two party system; so I’m not gonna suggest you don’t vote for Biden, but I will say that if that vote can represent hope for the best do what you can to prepare for the worst.
