This sounds like some "sovereign citizen" crap finding it's way into Canada. The only thing that stance is good for is schadenfreude when a judge makes "SovCits" aware of the fact that they are, in fact, subject to the law.
I actually built one of the "sovcits" his first computer, a Pentium dx66 IIRC. Thankfully when he was on the net he was mostly distracted by porn. Unfortunately I was also the first call he'd make when he picked up a virus.
Never understood the thought process behind these sovereign citizens. Let's say you accept the initial premise that they are their own country not subject to Canadian laws... aaaand you've been conquered. And are now subject to Canadian laws.
I want to avoid being too abusive, but it's the not-so-clever person's idea of what a well-thought-out argument looks like. They are akin the folks who abuse "creative accounting" to dodge taxes, but not as well-researched (or rich enough to hire someone who is).
This is the giant gaping hole in the entire theory, yes.
The same when when they walk into a court and think that if they recite certain special magic phrases the judge just has to hand over authority to them. Like, buddy... Your premise here is that the court secretly know they're refusing to follow the rules and if you just call them out on it they'll throw their hands up and say "Ah, you got me!" Why? If this really is a giant conspiracy that the entire government is in on, then who is going to stop them? They can still just throw you in jail anyway, because they control all the levers of state power.
Arguably, it's blessing they don't see it this way, because if you buy into all the shit they've bought into, the only real logical response is violent revolution.
But it works on SovCits because a) they're self-selected for gullibility, and b) their individualist, hardcore libertarian mindset makes them incapable of comprehending any problem that cannot be solved by individual action. Overthrowing a corrupt government is the kind of collective response that they simply cannot conceive of working.
So it must be possible to hack their way out of the system by cleverly reciting the special mantra that only they know because they're so clever and special. It's the only thing that fits with their individualist fantasy of simply opting out of every social contract / construct.
It’s the same reason you see conservatives spew their bullshit talking points despite being debunked already.
To a creature that fundamentally does not understand logic, that’s all debates and laws are. Just spewing random magical words until one side goes away or gets violent.
There is the whole accepting the government and taxes thing, I can see if you turned age of majority and never used public services or public roads, then maybe taxes could be seen wrong if you just lived remotely in the woods like a tribes/bushman. But as soon aa you participate lin society the sovcit goes out the window.
