I read a terrible novel about an intersex person, and because it was so terrible I read an actual book on the subject, and it sure is interesting to learn about. Apparently a lot of models have androgen insensitivity syndrome.
Can I ask what that is?
It's when someone is genetically male but is insensitive to androgens, which means they do not develop male genitalia despite having male chromosomes. The women who have AIS develop (partially or fully) female external genitals but are infertile and have no uterus or tubes or ovaries. The testicles remain hidden in the abdomen. Breasts develop, but little pubic or axillary hair. It's fairly common in models (https://nationalpost.com/news/0125-na-intersex), which explains their significant height.
For those who are curious:
Androgen insensitivity syndrome, or AIS, is a variation of sex development that causes intersex traits in males. AIS can cause changes in the way a person’s external genitals appear, as well as changes to one’s internal reproductive organs.
