Why was it even a policy to deny commissions based on HIV status anyway? That seems so needless and arbitrary.
Well, it was during the Reagan administration, during a time the disease was generally believed to only afflict gay people, so...
It also is curious that military academies banned students who had kids (and made having kids punishable by expulsion) at around the same time they started admitting women.
Those things are not arbitrary.
