Haitians Don’t Need More “Dumbasses” From the US State Department Weighing In on the Crisis

In 2021, envoy Foote started to work with this coalition, which was called the Montana Accord and eventually included some 650 organizations and individuals—labor unions, community organizations, Catholic and Protestant churches, women’s groups, chambers of commerce, and a range of political groups. The State Department ignored Foote’s efforts. His blistering resignation letter, made public in September that year, warned US policymakers: “I do not believe that Haiti can enjoy stability until her citizens have the dignity of truly choosing their own leaders fairly and acceptably.”
Haitians wanted Doc and Baby Doc. What they always get is chaos.
Chaos is bad, yes, but I think there are better options than autocracy. I don't know much about Haiti, but I doubt the people wanted the Duvaliers' human rights violations. Papa Doc was elected in 1957, and Haiti didn't have anything close to a real election until at least 1988.
Chaos is not a better option when others have to stabilize the country. I think UN peacekeepers have been there 4 times. The US has had to intercede at least that many.
Barbecue is the closest they've been to Papa Doc's reign, he supposedly believes in similar stuff, has similar narcissistic traits, and is absolutely as corrupt as they were, so if that's what they want that's kinda what they're getting.
They want Western nations to quit fucking them around and telling them what to do.
