About the bike lane beside Tunney’s Pasture Station

Has anyone else had the experience of peds in the bike lane, oblivious to where they are?

I slow down when I bike through there but some oblivious lady walked more in front of me last night when I rang my bell and I had to swerve dangerously.

What is the issue? Fading paint, more public education? A curb or physical barricade just at this location to deter peds from using the lane?

People seem especially oblivious here and I don’t want anyone to get hurt!

  • It's always like that I'm afraid. If it's just paint, most people won't notice. The bike path on Laurier Ave from Elgin to City Hall for example is painted very green with bike pictures on it at the beginning and end, but still people will walk there. The crossing over Colonel By from the Somerset Bridge to uOttawa LRT station has three separate signs showing what is meant for bikes and what is meant for pedestrians, but people will still walk there.

You really need physical barriers if you want to separate bike and pedestrian traffic and even then it's not fool proof. Especially around busy places like LRT stations. Only thing you can do is go slow there really.
