It's SOCK MONTH BABY!

It’s happening, people! The theme for the month of December is officially 🧦 SOCKS! 🧦

Get your finished socks entered into the theme contest. Post your WIP socks just because. Ask your sock questions. Start your first ever pair of socks and see how easy it is. Post your sock-related tips and anecdotes. Socks! Socks! SOOOOOOOCKS!

Yeah I know it's the third of the month already, but if you'd seen how ill I've been for most of the last two weeks you'd understand that I barely know where I am nevermind what date it is 😭

Still, if there's one thing that can ease my pain, it's the comfort of a drawer full of knitted socks!

Congrats to @weirdsquid@lemmy.world for submitting our most-upvoted baby + toddler project last month, this cute little toddler cowl!

As well as the theme switchover I am also very late on opting us in to the Lemmy Tagginator as discussed, mainly because I made that thread while half-conscious with covid and forgot all about it. Seriously. So ill. I am currently a complete shambles.

p.s. soooooooocks!

  • Yay for socks! (Booo for COVID)

I have sock related questions! I'm making a new pair of socks as a Christmas gift, for someone who wore a hole in the previous pair. How do you guys mend your socks? I patched them pretty quickly with a speed weave, but of course the texture of the patch doesn't match. On the other hand I have a young child and I like the speed part of the speed weave 😅

Favorite sock yarns? I love Drops Fabel so much. The colors, durability, and price are all great. Plus lots of patterns from the company. But it is so much harder to get here in the U.S.

Has anyone used Cascade Yarns "Fixation?" The local yarn shop owner claims this yarn is near indestructible. But it's pricey and cotton, so I'm not going to knit a whole pair out of it. I'm intending to reinforce the heel and toe of the socks I'm currently making with this yarn.

The Fabel socks I've started, plus a couple other pairs that are going strong after a several years of wear (red is one strand, blue is held double):

    • I can't help with the patching advice, sadly. Just posted my own socks for the theme, and they have a hole in so I'll be learning how to do this myself over the next few weeks!

Also have never used Fixation (I know, super helpful reply here). BUT every single other Cascade yarn I've ever used has been great and held up well, so tbh I'd be tempted to give it a go just based on past success with the brand. Definitely interested in a review if you do try it out!

Those socks at the bottom look so cozy omg, think it's the extra ribbing that just makes me think of winter and hot chocolate and all kinds of wonderful things. Nom nom nom 😄
