Funny coincidence: I've watched a documentary (Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat (2024)) yesterday that included footage of his shows.
I thought: Did they somehow edit his cheeks to look this extremely big when he's blowing the trumpet? But I guess that's just the way it looked. Very impressive.
I think it's a failure of the muscles after decades of playing.
Yes, I just checked the Wiki and it's "cheek-oriented laryngoceles".
