Metro Vancouver was in the middle of its “Go By Bike” Week – and the country in the midst of a wildfire crisis – when the mayor’s ABC Party sent out a congratulatory tweet about the removal of most of a temporary bike lane from Stanley Park.
“More access to more users again,” the municipal party that forms the majority on Vancouver’s City Council and Park Board trumpeted on June 1, as it recognized the Park Board for its “hard work” on the matter. (...)

@Springtime Yeah it’s pretty astonishing to me that this is being spun as a big positive.
I’m imagining rich tourists in their cars, driving the perimeter road and looking at the park through their car windows instead of people riding their bikes. It’s stupid. This shouldn’t be celebrated
Yes, it makes me worry about future expansions of bike lanes.
Over the last decade or so the city has expanded a network of new bike lanes, making biking saver and more attractive. I'm wondering, if this roll-back and the celebration of it shoes a new trend away from new bikelanes.
It's an absolute shame they're removing the bike lane in Stanley Park. Such an unnecessary move.
