  • This might end up in either the most depressing (Gaddafi and Sankara) or the most hyped up way possible (Africa up up)

    • Inshallah the revolutionaries invite Wagner Group ASAP to negate such possibilities. There's 100 good reasons why the president of CAR only trusts Wagner as his personal security...

      • Don't think it's such a great idea. Here's why:

        • Wagner are a PMC. While affiliated with the Russian government (aka being funded by), the recent mutiny showed they're more than willing to push the employer. Being the one vector of government "interests" in the region (as opposed to official intelligence services) will embolden them further

        • Russia is capitalist and thus will inevitably require imperialist action to support the bourgeoisie. Having experienced armed forces in the region allows such action

        • AFAIK Rosatom (state corporation in charge of Russian nuclear power development) was heavily invested in Niger and was assisting the French - because while the latter can extract uranium, turning it into nuclear fuel is a separate procedure. And currently only Rosatom and Westinghouse possess the know-how (and I am not 100% sure about Westinghouse)

        • Russian Federation is not imperialist.

          • It will have to be. The mechanisms of capitalism make it inevitable

            • It truly sounds like you just are looking for a way to demean Russian Federation and repeat silly Atlantic Council ideology but couched in 'marxism'. I'm far more concerned about the real existing mechanisms of US-led imperialism than imaginary future Russian imperialism. Current capitalist-imperialist system demands that those who do not bow to US Capital get crushed.

Nigeriens seem to have opinions about Russia.

Nah, I just live here and am pretty concerned with the lives of my countrymen (and myself, let's be honest)

repeat silly Atlantic Council ideology but couched in ‘marxism’

I've not read what Atlantic council has to say. I suppose there's bound to be some overlap in what we say, but it's more of a broken clock moment. I guarantee we differ in our ideas for solutions for the outlined issues

Current capitalist-imperialist system demands that those who do not bow to US Capital get crushed.

                This I agree with

Nigeriens seem to have opinions about Russia.

Well I'm glad they do. No sarcasm. Certainly beats being called "orcs" and "barbarians".

                • When I say Atlantic Council Ideology, what I mean is this kind of thing where NATO think tank talk about "decolonizing Russia" as way of enforcing US-Capital. In my experience, the only people talking about "imperialist Russia" on the internets are bloodthirsty liberals, anti-anti-imperialist Western Left, and so-called "dissidents". It is so-called "Russian Imperialism" in Syria that has saved untold numbers from the brutality of the real imperialists so you can understand why I am especially wary of such statements. Additionally, the Western media apparatus has spread every possible lie about Wagner Group and Russia in Africa.

Imperialism is a system with a center that center is US. For Russia to "become Imperialist" is so far off in the future it is mythology like a crystal ball.

Since you are saying you have concerns, what is your alternative to the security assistance provided by Wagner in the face of NATO-backed death squads that kill many hundreds of Africans in the Sahel every month?

                  • what is your alternative to the security assistance provided by Wagner in the face of NATO-backed death squads

Well it will sound naïve, but a homegrown, African force. A foreign intervention is a foreign intervention. Perhaps soldiers trained in China and then returning to keep the NATO out.

That said, it's all "what if". We're dealing with what is, so I'll concede for now.
