Why has Lemmy.world blocked burggit.moe?

I mean the obvious answer is that they're commies, but why? My feed is so dead now

  • It's most likely our willingness to host loli/shota/cub and probably because we allow controversial opinions. They might've also found something we posted that went against the Chinese Communist Party or North Korea or some other communist country.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is inevitable and there's little we can do to stop it beyond what we have already put in place to try and make peace with other instances. And we do not intend on changing our policies to try and appease other instances.

    • You really should change it since why would anyone stay here if they're limited by content they can see?

Just put the loli stuff in an NSFW community, easy solution, no need to flaunt it and give other instances excuses to ban burggit. Oh and don't even get me started with the hypocrisy surrounding banning NSFL content lol

      • Sorry, we're not going to change our policies, not for you, not for other instances and for no other reason so long as we can help it. Genuinely wouldn't care if every instance defederated with us tomorrow, we won't bend.

        • Yet you won't allow NSFL content? Not very free of you.

          • We're not a "Free Speech" instance and never claimed to be. We explain that pretty in-depth here: https://burggit.moe/post/5280 It's a pinned post which is SFW and was available for viewing before you signed up.

NSFL content would also only worsen the defederation issue, if that's something you genuinely care about.

            • NSFL is such an easy solution, just make a community for it. Likewise, it's the same solution for the pedo stuff.

              • You do realize all the loli/shota/cub stuff are in communities, right? Like it's up to the individual communities on whether they want to allow it or not. We even have a few communities who don't allow it. They're also all NSFW communities which can be easily filtered out on a per-user basis, all posts marked as NSFW (also easy to filter out.)

                • That's my point. Why advertise it in big letters saying, 'HEY, WE ALLOW SEXUALISED IMAGES OF PRETEND CHILDREN'? Just say; 'We allow any and all sexual content within law, blahblahblah'

Or better yet, just don't mention it anywhere and let users discover it by asking.

Least that way you won't get other instances stomping this one into obscurity. Like why would I use burggit for loli shit when I can just go to pixiv or some other website that has far more and in better quality? Your priorities are all over the place, you should really hammer down on that free expression that burggit offers, since right now that's what lacking in most of the available instances.

But hey, your server, you can do whatever you want with it, but I recommend nailing that freedom of expression and discussion part, that's your strength. The loli shit just dilutes that.

                  • Sorry, I have to disagree with you. The loli/shota/cub policy only helps us and has been the reason if not a reason, why people have signed up. It doesn't just say "we allow freedom of expression" but it says "and this is how far we go." Loli/Shota/Cub are artistic expression, forms of expression often blocked on many if not most platforms. We will not be changing our policy, stance, or visibility of said stance/policy.

                    • bruh i ain't asking you to change your stance. I'm suggesting you shouldn't advertise it so openly. Just say, "we allow all sexual content"

that way you can cash in on other fetishes. At least consider changing the wording.

                      • I understand you feel insistent about this, but please understand we will not be changing our wording.

                      • Wouldn't matter, there's enough people slinging the name around that any instance looking for any instance to blacklist will find it. There's also enough activists that will make sure admins are aware of any no-no instances and pressure them to ban asap.
