I teied using termux as a "linux" on androis before, but tbh I dont quite see the use case.
Termux as it is is great for ssh-ing into my headless server and executing commands. But everything else i do on my phone / tablet is something that a phone/tablet can already do, so idk what to do with (a bit clunky) x intterface.
I tried programming via termux on my tablet, but that wasnt that great either since for text files a proper vim setup would have worked as an ide for me, and graphics accelerated stuff (ie opengl vulkan etc) are (ofc) not supported with this termux linux.
True. Its a nightmare to get it working to this point. It was even harder one or two years ago when i have to create a proot-distro install and run a DE from it using external X server like XSDL or in another way, use vnc to do the same. Its hard but cool yeah.
I mainly use termux for.... well, many things. I use if for ffmpeg, to run many cli tools on linux. I have done programming in it on many languages, decompiled apks with apktool, convert images to pdf witb imagemagick, and X11 to run Firefox desktop version which has a better "print" feature I use to download a certain page(very niche). Having a mostly usable computer inside my phone is nice.
But here comes the real reason for why I use it. I actually don't own a computer or laptop but liked and got used to linux cli with termux alone. If I were to buy a laptop I would defenitely buy the one that has every part working well on linux, and will use linux exclusively
Btw my termux storage usage is 12.88Gb today, i have done a lot of cleanup recently. It was once 27 gb though
