I WFH and got a new laptop from work. I immediately put tape over the camera.
Internal IT reached out and said I had to uncover it. I asked why. they said because they run software that takes snapshots of the camera to ensure I'm the one using the system.
I complied. 👺
I have a standing desk and a ceiling mounted TV as a monitor. kept the new laptop on the desk and a keyboard on the standing part and worked from my TV for a week. it was a hot week. I didn't wear pants....or underwear or clothes.
they had a weeks worth of saggy sweaty ball pics. IT reached out, awkwardly. "Hey uh...is something wrong?" I play dumb "IDK, is there something wrong?" Silence then, "BTW we talked it over with HR, you can cover your camera." enthusiastically "Really? Oh man, I appreciate it. My office gets really hot and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. Thanks for clearing this up for me!"
I have never heard anything else since that day. I mean, what are they going to do? Fire me for inappropriate behavior...in my home?
Seriously. I have a post-it note (just the adhesive strip) over my laptop camera, both work and personal devices.
The work laptop is obvious, company provided laptop with uninstallable software for remote administration that allows full remote control of the machine.
The personal laptop that runs Linux..... tinfoil can be quite stylish as headwear when done correctly.
I use foil backed sticky gem stones over the front facing cameras on my phone and tablet and iridescent foil star stickers on the back cameras and on my laptop. My tinfoil hat is gay, lmao.
