  • Shit drives me nuts. I work for a service delivery organization and the last few years have seen us adopting a new platform that likes to talk up automation and efficiencies. Making things work is my job, but I don't hesitate to tell folks that while we can help improve and change the jobs they do, they still have to have call center and field resources.

    King of opposite what you asked, I was just talking to my wife about Kelly Clarkson's career the other day. Plucked from obscurity in the first season of American Idol, shot to stardom, now hosting daytime talk show. The woman has an incredible voice and can sing anything. It just makes me kind of sad that her talent is so underutilized.

  • I think your confusion is in thinking that Usenet is a centralized space. It isn't. Yes, you need a provider, but if one does carry what you want, you go elsewhere.

  • Fairly early on in the COVID days, it got Adam Schlesinger. To this day, it's the one celebrity death that felt personal to me.

    For those who don't recognize the name, Adam was one half of the songwriting duo in Fountains of Wayne. Who you know best, of course, for "Stacy's Mom." God, their songwriting was sublime though. And then Adam did "That Thing You Do", Ivy, Tinted Windows, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and a ton of other stuff.

    Maybe it's partly the collective trauma of the pandemic, but his death still hurts.

  • It must have been around 1981. Five years old. Empire Strikes Back was probably the first movie I ever saw in theaters.

    I woke up from a nightmare and went across the hall to my parents' room for some comfort. They both started to get up and they were fucking STORMTROOPERS! I ran through the house screaming while they calmly and quietly pursued.

    It was the most vivid, realistic, and terrifying dream I have ever had.

  • I spent a fair bit of the past weekend spinning it up and loading my library. Still have some cleanup to do, a fair bit of learning I think, and dipping into the community for some questions. At this point, I'm not sure it holds a ton of value for me personally, but it looks great and has been a lot of fun. Definitely looking forward to what the future brings.
