  • I'm glad he's holding the line now, but it would have been so much better to do it back then.

I really don't expect them to try and cancel the midterms, but we are going to see voter suppression that's completely off the scale. We already know they plan to deploy the national guard in all 50 states to "secure the election". The obvious goal will be to scare minorities away from the polls because of ICE and the normalization of racial profiling, but I wouldn't put it past them to straight-up cheat as well.

  • Yeah, that was kind of my point, but kind of not too. Everything I said about the differences between progressives and the establishment holds true in both directions. There is no "purity test". We are entirely different animals, and Schumer recognizes it. The one thing we have in common is an enemy. We can work with that, but let's do it honestly and cut the "purity test" bullshit.

And, just for background, the term "purity test" was specifically developed and focus tested out of establishment consultancies for the express purpose of undermining progressives. The fact that it gets rolled out every time discussion of "unity" comes up is engineered irony.

  • I think you might just have forgotten how many workers faught and died to bring us those things. They were not given, they were the result of what began with the luddites. The world's first arial bombardment from airplanes was bombs dropped on striking US coal miners.

Now those at home machines are designed to be replaced every 8-10 years max, are filling up our landfills and poisoning our environment, and even starting to spy on us in the mean time. Black lungs coming back. We forgot what all these gains cost, and were handing them back bit by bit.

  • Speaking of purity tests, has Schumer endorsed Mamdani yet? Nah, I didn't think so.

The phrase "purity test" itself is divisive rhetoric from establishment Democrats meant to smear progressives. There is no need for purity tests on the left. Find a Democrat who doesn't support free college? They won't support M4A, or cutting off Israel, or ending oil subsidies, or nationalizing infrastructure, or defunding the police, or protecting trans rights without exception. We don't need to shit on Democrats for falling a little bit short on an issue or two. It's a target rich environment for absolute corporate tools. We can save purity tests for later.

  • Probably a waste of time until you review how the law was written. Odds are it just doesn't apply. It's a job for lawmakers at this point, not a judge.

Now, if it hits a kid before the law gets written, a judge would preside over a civil case. There might even be a civil case against the legislature, depending on how that works in the jurisdiction.

  • As long as Democrats keep thinking they can win elections by lecturing voters, we are all fucked.

Yes, Democrats will always be better than Republicans in any given race. You think that means they are just entitled to win and bear no responsibility for horribly run campaigns? That's not how politics works. You gotta be the better candidate, and you gotta drive turnout. A politician who can't do both is worthless.

Yeah, the deck is stacked against them. They knew the game going in, and still played for shit. If it's so hard to win, then that's just all the more reason to run better campaigns.

The Democratic establishment as it stands is an abject failure. Whine about voters all you want, but you don't get to replace them.

  • There is no "you guys" here, only me. I've never been on TikTok you schmuck. I voted for Harris. I told "you guys" how to win, and instead you sacrificed America in support of a genocidal ethno-state colonial project and corporate oligarchy. Great job dumbass.

  • Are you even considering what I'm saying at all? No, nobody expected Biden to break norms - not a soul on earth. That was the entire purpose for which he was selected by the Democratic establishment, to be the normie Biden we all slept to for 50 years. Notably, the 50 years that led us to Trump, but that apparently didn't seem relevant at the time.

There is a cry for change in this country, and people are frankly not politically savvy enough to know what that change should look like. Neoliberals say "you don't really want change, here's some baubles." and people mumble "OK" and fall back asleep for a while. Fascists have fire and zeal and do offer change, and eventually they catch people's attention. They don't know what they are signing up for, but they finally figured out the baubles are shit, so they sign on.

People think Elon is a vissionary because it's been so long since they have had an actual leader.

As for foreign policy, fair or not, Biden's foreign policy will ultimately be remembered for just one thing. I'm sure you know what that is.

  • Four years of the Biden Presidency came and went in which someone could be completely forgiven for forgetting who was sitting in the office. There was absolutely zero political or social leadership coming from the Biden Presidency. None. That was half by design, and half because he was too far gone to be in front of the American people that much.

He was a capable administrator, and under his presidency the liberal oligarchy did choose to make some concessions, and I think he had something to do with that. He had a capable and competent cabinet. But, he was chosen for the role specifically to stall any further continuation of progressive momentum.

EDIT: I forgot to add that permission comes for breaking the norms by creating a movement that demands the breaking of those norms. That's specifically what the Biden Presidency was designed not to do.

  • It's not about the President, but it is about the party, and the President is also the head of the party. Biden was also the party establishment candidate that they ran against Bernie specifically to kneecap any chance at actual reform. So no, he doesn't get a pass for the results, just because he was only the President. Look what only President Trump can do.
