  • The people who think things like 'arrogant california elite' are probably never voting for a Democrat anyway. Newsom is well spoken, sharp, and fairly young. He can defend his positions quite well, and for better or worse is pretty slick. But yes, he's not willing to challenge Biden. I thought the pretext here was who would run if Biden did drop out or couldn't run for whatever reason.

  • California is full of … people.

  • It should be like one of those buttons you hit with a hammer at a fair. Higher up it goes, the more your vote counts!

  • “Right to work” as the name of an anti-labor policy sure has a dystopic newspeak feel.

  • Voting reform is absolutely the key… which is why neither entrenched party will do it, of course.

  • That’s the problem with this “both sides” take. Yes, there is no true leftist party in the US. They’re both corporatists. The Republicans are undeniably much worse, though. Anti-union, anti other labor rights, oppose every kind of social safety net, want to privatize (loot) and profit from public assets, are thoroughly in favor of racist classist policies of every type imaginable. Some democrats are too, but ALL republicans are like that.

  • I figured it was a conscious design decision. Maybe it just doesn't work, idk. It's kind of nice not seeing them though I am curious sometimes and will look on other instances.

  • Kbin doesn’t federate downvotes from other instances though, so you can only see the downvotes made through Kbin. I believe for Lemmy, the only way to see the identities of voters is through direct database access. Maybe some third party apps show that though?

  • Of course it’s bullshit that he’s being targeted politically - if anything, he’s gotten away with this for years due to his political status. But anyway, being targeted politically is not the same thing at all as being targeted due to bigotry. What a schmuck.

  • Idk, doesn’t seem like there’s much to do on the moon. You can grab some rocks and bounce around.

  • Some dolt told me that in hospital billing one time. I had two different insurances that said they’d pay. They failed to charge me. They were giving me 30 days before sending it to collections. I have them the insurance numbers twice. I called on day 27 and asked what are you guys doing? The guy said “the computer is going to send it to collections in a few days… it won’t let me do anything!” as if that makes any sense.

  • What about Github Copilot? It has tons of material available for training. Of course, it's not necessarily all bug-free or well written.

  • The recently approved gene therapy for young children with the condition, by the drugmaker Novartis, has a price tag of about $2.1 million for the single-dose treatment.

This is what I have thought when people discuss a cure for type 1 diabetes, MS or Celiac... they'd make it incredibly expensive. Celiac doesn't make them much money but T1D sure does.

  • That’s the problem.

  • It’s confusing to me why people think discord is a good replacement for forums. It’s not even the same paradigm - it’s a chat program. Not being indexed by search engines is a major drawback as well.

  • Maybe a free and open source forum software. There are a few out there, maybe you used one before.

  • Why are you posting this on Lemmy and not Discord?

  • This is what I wondered about a few months ago when people were saying that ChatGPT was a 'google killer'. So we just have 'AI' read websites and sum them up, vs. visiting websites? Why would anyone bother putting information on a website at that point?
