Fuck this Tr(ule)end Fuck AI
  • Interesting take. I personally disagree - I define art as the human experience/emotions being expressed exclusively by humans through various mediums. To me, that human element is what makes art “art” as it were. AI might be able to produce approximations of art and some of it might even look quite nice, but I don’t consider it “art” in the way I define the word.

  • Wording matters. We should want people to listen and join. This has been making the rounds without a great deal of backlash.
  • Personally I'd rather the popular left stops constantly bowing and scraping to these asshats for the slimmest opportunity to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century while they resist at every opportunity and instead focuses on building bridges with like minded people who don't have to be convinced that black people and trans women are human. We are long past the point where that was viable.

MAGA is constantly treated as if they're lost little lambs with no agency of their own and just have to be convinced into doing the right thing as if they didn't make those choices themselves with their whole chest. They watched a billionaire do a Nazi salute on live television and they cheered for him. They have told us what they are. Believe them.

We tried. They didn't want to know. Fuck them.

  • Ex-Roman Catholic here. I was never particularly devout but this is what drove me away from the church once and for all. I have never seen people preach about God’s love with so much hate in their hearts.

  • Bad faith agenda pushing was a problem in the days of forums and BBS too, although admittedly to a lesser extent because those platforms were smaller and less commercial. As long as people are able to talk to each other over the internet, that will be a problem. I think the best way to tackle that is being able to spot it and call it out when it happens.

  • It’s better in many ways, but one that I feel is quite important is that there’s no profit motive to keep users on the platform and engaging with advertisers for as long as possible, and therefore no need to develop the kind of exploitative algorithms that drive screen addiction and engagement through rage.

  • I hate the modern web
  • I’m weaning myself off it. Sadly there’s some communities that I’m active in on Reddit that either don’t exist on a federated platform or are so tiny that they’re functionally dead. Hopefully we can grow those communities though - if we want to preserve the internet and our democracies into the future, the cancer that is big tech needs viable alternatives.

  • If you are in America and are expressing pro-Palestinian views online regardless of your citizenship status, you should be seriously considering yourself a legitimate target for arrest or abduction by the state. If you haven’t already, it is essential to assess your security posture and take action as required.
