What have you changed?
  • Switched to Proton for e-mail, drive and calendar. Left Reddit for personal usage (I might still look into old reddit tech posts as an archive), deleted Facebook which hasn't been used for years. Never had a Xitter account but created a Bluesky one to try it out.

And most and foremost, ditched a lot of US products from my daily life. I was quite a huge Coke Zero consumer and it was probably the most difficult to get rid of.

  • How can I host a small api/database accessable from a phone app as cheap/easily as possible?
  • I have a very similar situation: a cat with a severe kidney disability, meds 5 times a day with at least 2h between each. We've been using a whiteboard but I am currently setting a smarter solution. My WIP setup is a raspberry pi with a static IP on my local network and a FastAPI app. This way I can also do a household to-do lists (did anybody watered plants recently?) and add connection to local smart lights (effects if meds could not be given with 2h interval before our usual go-to-bed time), etc.

It would only work for us since it is a household only solution. Our cats do not travel anywhere and I do not currently need to check for these todos when not at home. It may be different for you. Good luck OP, hope you will find something that suits you.

  • Another one
  • Wait wait wait! I dont think people want you to buy property in Frome, they want you to buy Frome as a city. Did you look up whether buying the whole lot would be cheaper than buying isolated properties? It may sound irrational but sometimes it's cheaper to buy rechargeable batteries in a pack with a charger than without a charger.

...I am in a desperate need of an equivalent to /s

  • [Meta] This community is the 6th most active on Lemmy!
  • Congrats everyone! There is still a long way ahead and but it is a great starting point. Honestly, I've always been curious about decentralizing and digging into alternative services and the current situation has been a nice pretext to actually change things.

The most difficult part will be to keep the things going and keep Lemmy communities alive by actively posting, commenting, etc.

  • [Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - March 2025
  • Medieval Dynasty and Biped (both in co-op). The former when playing longer sessions after work, runs great and overall a very fun experience. A lot like early Valheim discovery but centered around the settlement, and much better than Aska from both graphics, performance and UI point of view. Biped is for shorter sessions, like lunch breaks, just to finish a level around a coffee. Biped was a joke at some point since we were unable to see each other in-game and network was kinda broken. But now it's lovely, one of the best 2 bucks purchases.

  • Two Point Museum just launched as Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam
  • I played a demo version at a gaming convention in my country a few months ago and it was a great experience. Accordingly to a staff member it will run (runs?) on Steam Deck without any issue and given the type of game, specs and UI I believe it's true. Impatient to grab it at some point.
