  • I graduated at 26. It’s now 4 years later, and I had to literally use a calculator to count how old I was. I say this to emphasize how little I care now, in contrast to how embarrassed I was at the time. I am now in law school at 30. Most of the people around me are 3-5 years younger, and it doesn’t matter at all. Nobody treats me differently or excludes me. Lots of people change careers all of the time. The needs of the economy change and you do your best. Most people aren’t privileged enough to be insulated from the state of the economy. Sometimes people are unemployed, or experiencing health crises, or helping their family. We all have our own issues and run our own race, and it’s better to make progress than be stagnant.

  • For me a typical Sunday is coffee shop, library with a book, walk through the park. Just walking around and being around other helps. I just left the gym today and surprisingly did not feel horrible. Actually feel a little worn out but good, would recommend.

  • There cannot be a 2nd civil war. We have a nationalized military. States do not have their own armies and they are not trying to raise them. We have nuclear weapons all around the country. We are past the point where civil war is possible. At best, a single city might try to barricade itself off.

  • If it were me, personally, I'd prioritize every effort on putting as many of the people who broke the law in jail as possible, especially via state courts, and remove everyone who acted in an authoritarian fashion who did not explicitly break the law. And when I say prioritize, I mean we're cutting budgets from other departments to fund hundreds of more judges, hundreds of more investigators, hundreds of more prosecutors. Failing to do that was Biden's biggest mistake. He wanted to govern with gentleman's agreements and cordiality like a normal president. But the rules don't exist unless they're enforced, so it's time to enforce them.

  • one time when I was talking about a video I saw about Moldova, someone commented "I rarely see people know about my country". Moldova is on Ukraine's southwestern border (so opposite of the Russian side). It's mostly impoverished rural backwater, and its city is in decay from the soviet era.

  • They are. World leaders are just as horrified/pissed off as Democrats. China is pushing back, and you see what the cost is to our economy. Republicans don't care. They have the mindset that their only responsibility is to benefit themselves, ie. greed is good.

  • Well, there was a good news/bad news element.

Good news: there was no clog that I could get to. not in the drain, not in the overflow, not with a snake, not with a plunger.

Bad news: that means I absolutely have to wait for the landlord to send someone over.

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

I should assume I'm not going tomorrow, right?

  • Shower is badly clogged with hair, so I need to go to Home Depot. Sunday bus schedules + 30F/0C weather is going to suck. Then I have to clean the gunk out AND clean the shower.

Plus I’m doing a 1 credit wellness course next week, so I’m still working on tomorrow’s readings for that.

  • He lost the popular election 80-20, forcibly took over the government, violently suppressed protests, and has silenced and jailed numerous opposition members. All in the midst of a prolonged economic collapse resulting in famine and mass exodus. Yeah, he’s unpopular.
