Women outnumber men
Wait, did the topic of the conversation change? Because China absolutely does not have more women than men.
knowing the still lotion to the world's problems
Autocorrect for "solution"?
The scariest thing is that even if Musk or Trump were to film and upload themselves ritualistically murdering kittens, their followers would call it fake AI. There'd be nothing anyone could do or say to convince them otherwise, short of them witnessing the slaughter in-person with their own eyes (and even that might not do it.)
There's no way that the release of so much generative AI last year, just before this election, was a coincidence. Fascists got this shiny new tool for denying reality, and now they're free to dismiss photos and videos without question or repercussion.
I imagine the infinite phone tree could be like getting to the “Philosophy” page on Wikipedia. No matter which branch you take, you’re bound to end up in a massive loop that eventually brings you back to the start menu.
I get the sinking feeling that a lot of Trump supporters are at a point where they simply won't trust anything we tell them.
They've skillfully avoided the truth up to this point. They've drank enough kool-aid that they'll remain resolute in their "rightness" through shitstorm after self-imposed shitstorm. It's not about facts with them; it's about their feels. Their feels tell them that they are right and everyone in their cult "community" agrees, so they must be correct.
The last thing that will convince them they were wrong, would be screamed realities from people they already don't trust.
No names, no unit numbers, no way to definitively recognize any given individual at a glance?
So... hypothetically... someone who's not part of one of the active units, but who has the uniform, the ability to act the part, and the information required to make it happen, might be able to blend in with the oppressors during a military operation? Hmm.

critical thinking is tough
To preface, I don't know a whole lot about AI bots. But we already see posts of the limitations of what AI can do/will allow, like bots refusing to repeat a given phrase. But what about actual critical thinking? If most bots are trained off human behavior, and most people don't run on logical arguments, doesn't that create a gap?
Not that it's impossible to program such a bot, and again, my knowledge on this is limited, but it doesn't seem like the aim of current LLMs is to apply critical thought to arguments. They can repeat what others have said, or mix words around to recreate something similar to what others have said, but are there any bots actively questioning anything?
If there are bots that question societal narratives, they risk being unpopular amongst both the ruling class and the masses that interact with them. As long as those that design and push for AI do so with an aim of gaining popular traction, they will probably act like most humans do and "not rock the boat."
If the AI we interact with were instead to push critical thinking, without applying the biases that constrain people from applying it perfectly, that'd be awesome. I'd love to see logic bots that take part in arguments on the side of reason - it's something a bot could do all day, but a human can only do for so long.
Which is why when I see a comment that argues a cogent point against a popular narrative, I am more likely to believe they are human. For now.
My pervert brain first saw it as a metaphor for shaving everything.
But for most people that would count as "tedious work" too, so the underlying message would be the same either way.
I see what you're saying, but you're preaching to the choir.
Back when I was in high school (gosh, 2005 or so?) I had a teacher that said he only watched the Superbowl to see the commercials.
Me, being someone who tunes out, mutes, or otherwise does whatever possible to avoid being subject to ads, thought it was absurd. Sure, companies may go all-out if they think their ad will pay off, but there are so many things designed to entertain us that aren’t also trying to push us to buy something.
But saying that out loud seems to confuse people.
My first love fell down that hole. Toward the end of our relationship (he was about 18 years old) he'd started crushing on another girl. When we broke up, they got together. Each of them was a black hole of negativity. I saw what was happening, but with my status as "ex" I knew there wasn't anything I could say or do about it.
She was even more of a downer than he was, which was shocking (his constant negativity was part of what led to our break up in the first place.) They spent five years together, ranting and raving about how horrible everything is, all while living with their respective parents and avoiding getting jobs. He stuck with her, even after they realized they had absolutely incompatible sex drives (she was ace, he was very much not. To clarify - being ace isn't a bad thing. But for him, a complete lack of sex added to his feelings of isolation and distress.)
They eventually broke up, and we started chatting again (she didn't let him talk to me during their relationship.) He eventually went on adventures across the country, learned his love of kink play from a fling with an experienced domme, went to school and gained skills in a field he loves. He's in his 30s now, still upset about the state of the world (obviously), but he's learned to accept what he can't control.
In the end, he's expressed a lot of regret over that relationship. He realized in retrospect how toxic it was and how much it was holding him back. I have no idea how that ex-girlfriend is doing these days, but I'm glad that at least he was able to break himself out of that spiral.
Is that instance defederated from .world ? The link gives me the "couldn't_find_community" error. I searched for the community via Duckduckgo and was able to see it, but was logged out. When I logged in, all the posts disappeared.
The kid's been breaking the windows one-by-one with a paddle ball.
The combination of the headline and the thumbnail suggested something far more hardcore was about to happen.
And then there are the rest of us. Not quite young anymore, but we were robbed of the chance to even have anything to anchor us down. We've been squeezed out of the housing market nearly our entire adult lives. We never could justify having a child, perhaps because of money, perhaps because our consciences wouldn't let us, perhaps because of both. We job-hop every few years already, as it's the only way we've ever received a sizable pay raise.
There is no house, no child, and no job for us to worry about losing. I don't know about y'all, but I've been doing little more than fighting to get by for far too long.
I'm ready to fight for something else.
I love how this comment proves your username.
But I verified the low snoot temperature with a snoot boop.
I find your methodology intriguing. It merits a thorough peer review. Is anyone willing to boop their pupper snoot and report back on their findings? For science, of course.
Washing machine cat go brrrr?
I'd really love to find a new radio for my car that: 1) can serve as a monitor for my back-up camera, and 2) isn't a fucking touch screen.
There are models that are one or the other, but I haven't found anything that's both. The closest I've found is a compromise - a touchscreen that also has a few tactile controls. But I don't want to have to rely on any touch screen when I'm driving. I simply don't feel compelled enough to spend $400+ for a frustrating half-measure.

President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast an executive order instructing Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek out and prosecute "anti-Christian bias."
"To confront such weaponization and religious persecution, today I'm signing an executive order to make our Attorney General, who's a great person — she's going to be a great Attorney General — Pam Bondi the head of a task force, brand new, to eradicate anti-Christian bias," Trump said. "About time, right? Anti-Christian bias. Yeah, never heard of that one before, right?"
"So many times you hear, but you don't hear the anti-Christian bias," he continued. "The mission of this task force will be to immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government, including at the DOJ, which was absolutely terrible."
Trump suggested the FBI and IRS were "terrible" for targeting Christians.
"In addition, the task force will work to fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society and to move heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide," he added. "You've never had that before, but this is a very powerful document I'm signing."
"You get it now. First time you've had it. If we don't have religious liberty, then we don't have a free country. We probably don't even have a country."

Honestly, the entire Siren Song of the Counter Culture album deserves a listen (or re-listen, if you're a fan but it's been a while.)

Are we so alone, So distant, So forgotten, As we think ourselves to be?
These are our lives But did they ever even matter? Are we worth remembering?
These machines feed on the tears Of broken lives and dying dreams We're throwing wrenches in the gears Our lives will not be lived in vain
When this is all said and done We spent this life on the run Judged by the company we keep
Our language, buried inside These lungs that keep us alive We breathe so selfishly
Promises we plan to break Are made in whispered voices Cause our despair knows many names
We make mistakes But we apologize with roses We never stop to smell along the way
These machines feed on the tears Of broken lives and dying dreams We're throwing wrenches in the gears Our lives will not be lived in vain
When this is all said and done We spent this life on the run Judged by the company we keep
Our language, buried inside These lungs that keep us alive We breathe so selfishly
We fell from the sky today We melt into balls of clay We sell ourselves everyday Don't tell me how to live this way
Pushed so far to the edge We teeter just on the brink You can lead me to the bloodbath But you can't make me drink
As these machines feed on the tears Of broken lives and dying dreams We're throwing wrenches in the gears Our lives will not be lived in vain My life will not be lived in vain
I recently began using concentrates and I'm still exploring different types for the first time.
Recently I got some budder, but I've been having difficulty getting it into the ring. I have a metal tool (originally designed for tobacco, iirc) with three different tips, but it isn't cutting it for this. Although sugar clumps together well and is easy to drop into the ring, so far budder has not been cooperating. It sticks to the tool, it doesn't stick to the ring easily, and I usually end up having to use my fingers (then cleaning them with pumice scrub, because nothing else will get the stuff off.)
I figure there has to be a better solution. So what do you guys use to apply concentrates? Are there any particular tools you would recommend? Or are there tricks to this process that might not be obvious to a newbie? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I love finding new special interests, but the accompanying sleep-deprivation is real.

I was kicked off Medicaid at the start of this year and subsequently lost access to my ADHD and depression medication. In February, I moved to a new area and got a new job, but had to wait several months until I qualified for health insurance through it.
After that point, I had to wait for a weekday when I wasn't working and when I had the mental capacity to tolerate back-to-back disappointing phone calls... all without medication that would make the process significantly easier to tolerate. These are only the calls I've made today.
Finally, FINALLY, I have an intake appointment scheduled.
It's absolutely shameful how much a struggling person is expected to do in order to access basic mental health care.

In case you can't tell, I'm passionate about rationality and critical thinking.
However, I still appreciate a freshly-baked π.
